Spitzer's other victims

Ha ha. My thinking is a bit different. First off, I think that the Republicans ought to be the ones paying for the 3 ring circus. That whole thing was just plain silly and sounded a lot like sour grapes. Second, why in the world is prostitution illegal? I've never gotten that.

Driver is arrested after train strikes car

<<His actions threatened the lives of the people on that train.>>

Hello??? His vehicle got STUCK!!!!!! Duh! If your vehicle is stuck on railroad tracks and you see a train coming you'd be pretty stupid not to get out of your car and run.

However, I agree with the rest of what you said. He does need a wake up call of some sort and if it takes a judge to send him to rehab (not jail at this point) then so be it.

I have to say when I read the article I was shocked to see he was taken to jail until I got to the final paragraph.

Yeah, he should definitely face charges, but I think rehab is the better option at this point.

Rape reported in Emporia

That it happened at/during a coming out party makes it especially tragic. 15 year old girls feel pretty grown up, but as we know they are still children.

To me, it doesn't matter what she was doing without her parents. Maybe she went with another family. Maybe a friend. Who knows? For whatever reason she may have made a small mistake and learned the hard way that sometimes the price for small mistakes are very very steep.

I hope those people are caught. I hope she will be ok. I hope that no one blames her for the sickness of other people.

Comfortable at Ayan

I agree with everyone else. It is so nice to hear something positive about the Somalians.

I have not been to eat there, but I haven't had any complaints about them myself (no more than any other group of people LOL).

I sure hear an awful lot of bad stuff, but have only once seen anything for myself: a somalian pulled out in front of me. One time. I work close to the post office so I am pretty familiar with the area and am there frequently. Have yet to see them do any bad driving that anyone else doesn't do. (Yeah, we all make stupid mistakes when driving once in a while)

Sometimes the men seem rude, but I don't know if that is because they are or because they are preoccupied. They aren't any ruder than any other person I've seen. The women are friendly....seem a bit shy actually.

Sorry to go on and on. Seems you have opened a floodgate with your article :-)

Tribute for a Soldier

I am glad that the Patriot Guard was on hand. They are a wonderful group of people and what they do for grieving families is wonderful.

Talking trash

I am impressed with the number of positive, constructive suggestions about cleaning up our city. This is so great!

September 7 is a Clean Up day? This is the first I have heard of it. I will be there if I can.

City holds final budget forum

If he's been playing for 50 years he still needs constant practice. Any musician could tell you that.

Has he been whining? Haven't paid that much attention....

Maybe I am biased because I totally enjoy the Thurs. night concerts. I wouldn't be able to go if they weren't free. But if I had the money I would pay....it would be worth it to me for the family atmosphere, and my youngest kids have fun while getting exposure to different types of music. Even my teenagers enjoy it.

It's a nice family activity that involves the community. I think that is important. Not only do the kids get exposure to music other than what is on the radio or what their friends listen to, but they see folks of all different ages just relaxing and enjoying themselves.

It's not much to ask anymore.

My perspective comes from the fact that I have moved quite a bit in my adult life. I have lived in large cities to tiny towns. Not one had a free activity like this that brought people of all ages to one place where all could relax and enjoy.

My apologies for assuming you did not play an instrument.

KStrebuchet I don't think that you play an instrument or you wouldn't say that. Playing an instrument is constant practice. I wouldn't exactly call it work because I enjoy playing mine (I am not in any band, but play flute and oboe). If you love kids, babysitting is not too hard (I have babysat in the past and now have 4 children of my own). As for fast food....well, yeah, that can be a tough job. Mostly dealing with irate or rude customers. But that can be shrugged off pretty easily (I work in retail).

My point is, we all do different things. Some jobs seem easy to us because we don't know what all goes into doing the job.

City, county officials meet with Somali community

I don't have a problem with my children going to school with different ethnic groups. To me, that is a good thing. However, I do have a problem with certain people being allowed to ignore the laws because they are supposedly ignorant. I also have a problem with people who come to our country and refuse to learn the language. (Please note that I said refuse to, not cannot, or are trying to).

I think if you are in this country by your own choice then you should learn and obey the laws, and try your hardest to learn the language.

Volunteers not wanted

When I volunteered there a year and a half ago the Shelter was a 'kill' shelter. But the shelter manager worked extremely hard to get animals together with rescue groups. The other employees were involved with that too, and with the volunteers. Sounds like a lot has happened for the worse when the manager at that time left. What a shame :-(
