City dives into altering golf course fees
reality..
It is those who buy annuals that reap the true savings anyway. An adult only has to play 35 times per season for his annual to pay for itself. The senior has to play 32 times. The people I know that buy annuals easily play in excess of 60 times a year. If you can't see the savings in that, you are blind. If anything, an annual should cost much more.

Vote for Karr
Good luck in the election Mr. Longbine. After I received Mr. Karr's mudslinging mailers, he most definitely will not get my vote. I thought he would have enough class to keep it clean, but I was wrong. Just goes to show that Mr. Karr lacks the character for this public office. I have lost all respect for him. I am just sick of politicians lying and distorting the truth to try and gain favor from those that don't know the facts. Shame on you Mr. Karr...shame on you!!!

Next grant payment released to Fanestil
Smoots is wanting the world from the city. No taxes and the people of Emporia flipping the bill for everything. Industrial park 3 is set up for his operation and the other is not. He is also planning on modernizing the plant and cutting his work force by close to 30%. This means more people being laid off. I am not willing to pay him for that! The odor will hurt the taste of the meat?!? Give me a break. Quit being greedy...you are getting enough of the taxpayer's money with the FEMA grant, Lyon County, and the citizens of Emporia.

A dollar.
In spite of the condescending comments, the author is trying to make a very good point. Every dollar we spend out of town directly influences the economic stability of our county, its cities, and its citizens. Some people just can't seem to figure this out. As I have stated before, I will gladly spend a little more, and often times a little less, buying locally knowing good and well that it supports our infrastructure. Taxes will continue to go up and up as long as we spend our resources elsewhere. Everyone expects the same services that they have had in the past and those can only be financed by the citizens of this county. When the coffers run dry your taxes go up and then you really start complaining. It's your own fault! Some people will drive hundreds of miles thinking they are saving a bundle of money and when you put a calculator to the cost of the trip they end up spending more than they thought they were pesonally saving. Same goes with the internet. Think about the shipping charges. Then you add up the tax dollars lost and it is complete lunacy. If we can not take care of each other, we are truly lost. I will always support the local economies. I suggest you take a long hard look at yourselves and do the same. It does make...cents!!!

City government
Mr. Mercer you said:
"After all, as taxpayers, we pay their salaries. You know it is pretty bad that a few individuals run the government here in Emporia, and that decisions that affect many are being decided by a few."
Isn't this the foundation of how our government is supposed to operate? A few that represent many. We, citizens, elect officials at city, county, state, and federal levels to represent us. That is called a democracy. If we do not like the way an individual represents us, we vote them out.
But as I have said time and time again, we must have individuals that are willing to run office and not just maliciously COMPLAIN about those that are sacrificing their time and reputations. As far as salaries, I believe that the CITY commissioners make about $6000 a year. I do not believe that many of you would like to undertake this position of scrutiny for that kind of pay. So you must want to help the community and believe in its potential to do the job to take on such a reponsibility.
Mr. Mercer, I like your tenacity, but if you're looking for anarchy please go somewhere else.

City commissioners to discuss parking meters
Once again, so many experts, but when it comes time to run for the office of city commissioner or Lyon County commissioner nobody shows up. I guess it's just easier to sit on your duffs and complain. It must make you feel like you're making a difference, huh?

Project may be re-bid
Tell- you said
"ATG needs to market themselves better and quit crying because they didn't get to bid {get over it"
They were never even let in on a bidding process. If they can save our school district just $5000 dollars I would give it to them. They are Kansas based company. The original contractors for the highscool turf were from Canada. I don't know about you, but I would rather help keep Kansans with jobs! This is the same company that put in the ESU Baseball field. They beat out all other bids and did an outstanding job. If they say they can save us money, they will.
The school board and district has done a very poor job concerning this matter.

Commission candidate bows out
Mr. Mercer thank you for puting your name in the hat for city commissioner. I am sorry that you had some personal issues and I wish you the best. It would have been nice to hear your opinions.
It takes courage to put your name on a ballot knowing that others will criticize you, call you crooked, a collusionist, etc. Even when they do not know you and you, in turn, have never met them.
If you have something positive to say, say it. If you have something constructive to do, do it. If you don't..well try this...(Silence while sitting down)
