Once again, so many experts, but when it comes time to run for the office of city commissioner or Lyon County commissioner nobody shows up. I guess it's just easier to sit on your duffs and complain. It must make you feel like you're making a difference, huh?

Tell- you said
"ATG needs to market themselves better and quit crying because they didn't get to bid {get over it"
They were never even let in on a bidding process. If they can save our school district just $5000 dollars I would give it to them. They are Kansas based company. The original contractors for the highscool turf were from Canada. I don't know about you, but I would rather help keep Kansans with jobs! This is the same company that put in the ESU Baseball field. They beat out all other bids and did an outstanding job. If they say they can save us money, they will.
The school board and district has done a very poor job concerning this matter.

Mr. Mercer thank you for puting your name in the hat for city commissioner. I am sorry that you had some personal issues and I wish you the best. It would have been nice to hear your opinions.
It takes courage to put your name on a ballot knowing that others will criticize you, call you crooked, a collusionist, etc. Even when they do not know you and you, in turn, have never met them.
If you have something positive to say, say it. If you have something constructive to do, do it. If you don't..well try this...(Silence while sitting down)

To all of those that shop our community and support it, I say thank you. Also, a special thanks to the citizens that posted this article. Job well done!

Amazing that when the critics are criticized how they become argumentative and have numerous excuses and explanations. I, too, get up early and go to a full time job. I always shop Emporia, pay my taxes, vote, support charities, and try to save as much money as possible for my family. I absolutely admire each and every one of you that do. I am not rich monetarily but rich in life and family. I have served both my community, country, and the freedoms for which they stand. I am darn glad to have the local leaders that we have. They too have families they support. They too care about Emporia. They get $500 a month with no benefits other than that they love Emporia and want to make it better. You can't do a job like that and ask for any money reward. We may not all agree with their decisions or politics, but for people to attack them personally is absolute lunacy. I simply state that if you can do a better job...do it. You will have my support.

Hard to believe with so many "experts" in this community that these are the only canidates to apply. I guess the people that truly care the most about our community are going to continue their hard work to make it better. Actions do speak louder than words.

seriouslyfolks-
There are people that are proactive and say they can, do, and will. Then there are people that are sideline critics that say they can't, don't, and won't.

I expect to see a flood of applications for city commissioner from all of you that heavily criticized the commission this year. You all seem to have the pulse of the community and have all the correct answers to the problems that face Emporia. This city needs experts like you?!? It's time for you all back up your comments.

Mr. Mercer you said:
"After all, as taxpayers, we pay their salaries. You know it is pretty bad that a few individuals run the government here in Emporia, and that decisions that affect many are being decided by a few."
Isn't this the foundation of how our government is supposed to operate? A few that represent many. We, citizens, elect officials at city, county, state, and federal levels to represent us. That is called a democracy. If we do not like the way an individual represents us, we vote them out.
But as I have said time and time again, we must have individuals that are willing to run office and not just maliciously COMPLAIN about those that are sacrificing their time and reputations. As far as salaries, I believe that the CITY commissioners make about $6000 a year. I do not believe that many of you would like to undertake this position of scrutiny for that kind of pay. So you must want to help the community and believe in its potential to do the job to take on such a reponsibility.
Mr. Mercer, I like your tenacity, but if you're looking for anarchy please go somewhere else.
