People in their 80s aren't likely to favor Daylight Savings Time.
As for why...well, to make a long story short...Daylite time "expands" evening "light" one hour...when many people are wanting to enjoy the outdoors---with picnics, playing golf (especially playing golf), kids playing softball, baseball...just having fun. IN the MORNING...when the sun is up way early, most people are sleeping thru it.
ALSO...extending daylight an hour allows people more time to MOW their yards, trim hedge, work in their garden...maybe even paint their house, wash their cars.
As for Don's column, once I saw his ridiculing of Daylight time, I quit reading...likely to never read any of his colums again. I have hardly read any of what he has written for years...ever since he seemed to indicate no sympathy for the Jews exterminated in the Holocost, not to mention uprooting them in their lives, taking their property...starving, gassing, and abusing them.

As a Democrat (and, yes, Democrats suffer from some of the same Extremes in their own party), I very much welcome the Moderate Republicans as reasonable to work with.
Seems to me the Conservative Republicans have the attitude..."...either my way or the hiway...". On the national Scene about 13 years ago, the same thing happened to the Democrats in Congress. The extreme liberals just ran over people.
The Democrats paid the price, which I alsl believe has hurt our country deeply...as the Republicans then ran wild---so much so, the Republicans then got tossed out.
Although a Democrat, I strongly support my State Representative, Don Hill. I believe Don looks at most issues from a what is best position. Not, how his vote will Support or not Support the party.

AS I FIGURE IT, IT WILL COST ME AN EXTRA 12 CENTS TO TOPEKA...24 CENTS FOR THE ROUND TRIP.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Clarence. As an ad salesman in Emporia, Clarence was one of my accounts.
He always treated me with respect.
My sympathies are with his family.
