Kansas Board of Regents members ask about fire safety for students

Steve maybe the fill-in president finally did what should have been done long ago. He told the Regents about the sub-standard off campus housing that the City of Emporia has allowed to continue and the slumlords to get rich. Mind you this house had a "floor furnace" in a house with at least 3 apartments in it (2 up and at least 1 in basement) that would imply it has 3 furnaces. In a house that is less than 800 sq ft.

Taxpayers, not landowners, to pay for sewer extension out west

What is this about easements? I thought the line was going west along old Hwy 50 (under turnpike) and north up the county road west of turnpike (americus road south of Highway 50) and west out Highway 50 to the new Ind Park. All that should already have easements for public utilities.

Emporia City Commission on board with Fanestil’s incentives

Steve,
I agree I thought that all the "obrien" property access was bought by KS DOT when hwy 50 was widened and right of way was acquired. Was told by RE agent involved that only property in area of corner was access rights purchased by state.

Emporia City Commission on board with Fanestil’s incentives

Steve according to previous articles this property has highway 50 access. Question that hasn't been answered is where will 2nd access go? 2nd access I think is required for emergency access, etc. Does this 12 acres backup to a surrounding road?

RDA questions price to buy land for Fanestil’s

You all need to remember 1st rule of sales. Willing seller and willing buyer. Don't want to pay the price, then move on.
The Obriens have owned that property as long as I can remember. As a kid (I'm 50+) when Mr. Obrien ran the Transport Inn truckstop (where Emporia Toyota is now) I'm sure he could see the possibility of Emporia growing and he might have to move someday.
Again don't want to pay the asking price then move on.
RDA is right to question price and sale arrangements. Another good reason for RDA to arrange land purchases that they will be paying for.

Teen seatbelt enforcement to take place

Steve,
Probably most of the tickets will be given to parents not students. Kids today are way better than we older adults are about wearing them. I myself am a lousy example. But I will say my kids wear theirs even as a passenger with me and do it without even thinking about it.

Recall the commissioners

Steve,
Thanks for clarification. But "extending, continuning, etc" of county dedicated sales taxes is sore subject. The county has done it right with sales tax for buildings they sunset when bonds are paid off. Unlike the city which has extended and renewed previous sales taxes. Like the kids song that never ends.

Recall the commissioners

Meth,
The last tax like the courthouse passed by the county was for the Jail it was (it paid off 6 years early if memory serves me).
The courthouse sales tax CANNOT be extended in any fashion it must sunset at or near (months) of bond payoff.

Parking crackdown begins in January

Are they going to notify people with outstanding tickets. Since they stopped sending out letters informing owners of vehicles that there are tickets against the car that they may not be driving. (employees, kids, etc)
Also isn't it great that we are leaving meters where a member of the city commission is large property owner. Looks pretty self serving.

Rally Monday at Lyon County Republican headquarters

Oh yeah and Gwen take down the idiotic banner of "Breaking News" of a rally by republicans and put it in "about town" where it belongs. Or at least send them a bill for an ad like Karr paid for .
