Thank you to the Gazette for stressing the importance of spaying and neutering your pets :)

Something needed to be pointed out about the condition of the property it really is becoming quite an eyesore, which I think is quite discouraging to people traveling thru emporia on I-35 looking for lodging. I hope that something grand like what gazette_reader made mention of is done, that would be really neat! (a Jewel of a hotel to draw them off the highway and into our grand little town)

Congratulations! Cute little car. I looked at that car when researching a replacement for my current heap of a car :) The smart4two was just a bit too small for my likes.
I am waiting for the Aptera (begins production in CA oct 2008)

Channel 49 news is coming down to interview a few of us about the puppies. Hopefully we can use the opportunity to raise some money for the Buck fund to help care for the puppies and other animals in need. And at the same time spread awareness about the importance of having your pets spayed and neutered.

I am glad to hear that she is doing ok. I to am concerned about any animals that might have been carried in the truck. If there were any are they alright. I am very grateful for all that animal control does and I am a huge support of increasing the hours that they operate.

Thank you for the wonderful article. I am proud to be a member of a community where the paper will print what other larger communities might view as an insignificant story. The two things that I hope people come away with after reading this article is that #1 There are people out there who will care for unwanted animals and its not hard to find them. Please seek them out, discarding helpless puppies and kittens should never be an option. If at all possible let the mother wean them and then take them to a shelter or an organization such as the H. Dale Buck Fund. #2 It is so important to heed the words of Bob Barker and “Please have your pets spayed and neutered” it is not very expensive to have done and it really does pay off in benefits not only to your pet, but also to you as a pet owner.

I would be in favor of paying a few cents more here and there in taxes if it meant that we had a few more animal control officers and a larger staff for our animal shelter. I think this would go along way to improving the life of all animals in Emporia as well as ensuring the saftey of our citizens. As for the response of animal control there have been a few times that I have called to report dogs at large and have been told that no AC officer was available, but when they are available my reports have always been responded to quickly. Our AC officers do the best with what they have. We need to get them more support. And for all owners out there who have friendly escape artists please make sure that you tag them with information so that amateur animal rescue people such as myself can get them back to you quickly and safely.
