Fair board supports demolition

Just to clarify the Salvation Army issue. The deed/will left by the Anderson's when they donated the property states that if the county ceases to hold a fair on the grounds then the property would revert to The Salvation Army. It would then be up to The Salvation Army to sell or what to do with the property.

KHP reports on accident

Disregard prier comment. Had to read the article again and it made since then. I thought the truck was coming off South Ave.

KHP reports on accident

I'm not understanding how the left hand turn was blamed for the accident. Isn't there a stop sign at South Ave. making the southbound vehicle have the right of way?

Because we love them

IMO it is a good law. A teenage can mature a lot in a year and be more responsible. I also think the passenger limit is a good idea. I have seen cars by the high school at lunch time packed full of teenagers. How safe can that be. An even better law, like some other countries, would be for them to wait till 18 to get a drivers license. It would also help if they would offer or even make it mandatory for drivers ed in high school.

City commission calls special meeting

Actually 24th does need repaired. I drive it once a week and there are many pot holes. Even without any new buisnesses there that road has lots of traffic on it. In my opinion it needs the work done worse than South Ave., and I live on the south side of town so drive that road much more frequently.

Cable says more channels on the way

After reading all these posts I am thinking I will stay with what I have. We have 3 receivers and pay for 2. We got the protection plan because we had to have some work done on the dish and it cost us a bundle. We had a spanish package and did lose several channels we watched so switched to an english package. I will also say we used to have Dish Nework and we like Direct TV much better.

Cable says more channels on the way

I have been recently considering getting cable because we are getting frustrated with satellite. It's not that cheap when you figure you pay for each receiver and their protection plan. You do get lots of channels but how many shopping channels and music channels does one really watch? And they do take channel off channels occasionally also. And they will not give you a promotional package on anything once you are already a customer. Tried that. So point being, although the grass may look greener it doesn't always taste better. We will continue to research cable before jumping into it because we don't want to have a worse deal than we already have.

Students learn about ‘Day of the Dead’

Not sure why the subject turned to Halloween and Christmas... From what I understand "day of the dead" has nothing to do with halloween.
Day of the dead has been celebrated in Mexico far longer than halloween has.

Dead animals

I called animal control about a dead cat on well used public sidewalk and there was not an officer on duty and was told it would have to wait till one was on duty. The custodian put it in a bag and put it in the dumpster. The city doesn't like that either but it's better than leaving it there and people having to walk by it all day.

Legislators, candidates study early education

I always thought Emporia Child Care was a day care center basically but it sounds like it is more of a preschool. Maybe they should consider changing their name to reflect that.
The school district has a preschool program at Maynard but it also has a "waiting list". It is pretty much impossible to get into once school starts. The school district should expand this program so all parents who want to enroll their child can be included. The "No Child Left Behind" shouldn't start at kindergarten. Now days a child who does not attend at least a 4 year old program starts kindergarten behind.
