Gwendolynne Larson is the executive editor of The Gazette.
A native Kansan, Gwen was born in Topeka and grew up in Vassar in Osage County. Unlike many of her generation, the Watergate scandal didn’t draw her to journalism. For Gwen, it was the television show “Lou Grant,” which ran on CBS from 1977 to 1982 telling the story of the newsroom at the fictional newspaper, the Los Angeles Tribune.
Gwen earned her journalism degree at the University of Kansas’ William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications before moving to the East Coast and working for three years in the Washington, D.C., area. She returned to Kansas in 1990. She started as a reporter at The Gazette in 1993. Since then, she has served as features editor, senior reporter and news editor before taking the helm of the newsroom in October 2005.
When she is not working at The Gazette, Gwen enjoys running the ‘Mom Shuttle’ for her three sons’ activities and sports practices and working with her husband, Greg, to coordinate the family’s schedule with military precision. In her free time, she likes to attend Emporia State football and basketball games and read.
