Emporia’s Ted Hollembeak and George Milton competed in the tennis competition at the National Senior Games in Minneapolis, Minn., July 9-13. The two, in their eighth trip to the Senior Games, placed second in the men’s 75-80 doubles age group.
Hollembeak brought back an individual medal as well, placing fifth in the men’s 75-80 singles age group after winning the consolation bracket.
The duo went 2-1 in doubles, taking their first match 6-1, 6-1. The next would be more difficult after dropping the first set in a tiebreak, but Hollembeak and Milton escaped with the win by taking the next two sets: 6-3 and 10-2.
In the title match of their age group, the Emporia players lost in two sets to finish in second.
Hollembeak put together a 4-1 record in singles, bouncing back from a first round loss with four straight wins. Three of Hollembeak’s victories were by 6-0, 6-0 margins, while his final win required just two sets (6-3, 6-1) as well.
