Obama’s albatross

Originally published 02:54 p.m., May 1, 2008

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright seems to be having a high old time in the spotlight. Every minute he spends there, the more damage he does to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

What is not clear is why Wright’s opinion or his antics should matter any more.

Wright was a problem for Obama when he was a part of Obama’s campaign. As a “spiritual adviser” — a title that always seems more appropriate to a raiser of ghosts than to a religious counselor — Wright became an embarrassment when tapes of some of his sermons began making the rounds of the Internet and the news shows. It was instantly clear that a campaign based on calls for political and racial reconciliation has no place for a cantankerous preacher who called on God to damn America.

So Obama denounced Wright’s ideas and — very gently — threw him under the bus. Apparently Obama was too gentle; he only made Wright angry.

Now, the preacher travels the circuit, criticizing the nation and speaking dismissively of Obama.

The question for voters is this: Why should anyone who does not accept Wright’s opinion of the United States accept his evaluation of Barack Obama?

B O must have liked the hate speech all those years or he would have been somewhere else on Sunday.

The BIGGER question for Obama is - why did it take 20 years?????

And now we should just believe that his 'character judgment' of those he will be dealing with on a much larger stage (such as Ahmadinejad or Chavez) should he become president will be much more on the mark than his character judgment of his pastor?

Scary how many people in this country are ready to follow like sheep to the slaughter.

Preacher Wright is just taking advantage of the open microphone that is being offered to him by the media and trying to elevate himself to level of the other two loud mouthed profiteers named Jackson and Sharpton.

For a guy that drives 2 $100,000 Mercedes, and lives in a $1.6 million mansion, with a $10 million line of credit from the church, I don't see where America has been all that "bad" to him....

I agree with the other comments - this guy is crazy.

Here's a conspiracy theory for you:
What if the Clinton camp is paying Mr. Wright (sorry cannot bring myself to call him a preacher or reverend) under the table to be doing this. He sure is helping make Hillary look good.
I'm just saying . . .
