An Emporia animal control officer had to be extricated from the animal control truck she was driving this afternoon following a collision with a dump truck at Sixth Avenue and Prairie Street in front of the BP service station.
The call came in to Emporia Police Department dispatch around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon that a vehicle was laying on its side and a person was trapped inside. It took crews several minutes to extricate the driver. The driver, Amanda Collins, who was conscious and breathing, was transported by Lyon County EMS to Newman Regional Health.
The accident had the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Prairie Street partially blocked as crews extricated the driver. Mike Williams, of the Emporia Police Department, said he was unsure how the accident happened. The accident will be worked by the Kansas Highway Patrol rather than the Emporia Police Department, because the vehicle belongs to the city, Williams said.

They just announced on KVOE that she's ok, just minor injuries. Thank goodness! What an ordeal to go through.

I am glad to hear that she is doing ok. I to am concerned about any animals that might have been carried in the truck. If there were any are they alright. I am very grateful for all that animal control does and I am a huge support of increasing the hours that they operate.

Stella its ppl like you that give forums like this a bad rap. Doesnt matter what she does for a living, just wish no one was hurt. If you have a problem with animal control then file a complaint, but dont wish this on someone. You can always tell when the school lets out.....

Stella, we could do away with animal control but then when we had an animal problem we'd just have to dispatch a regular officer and they could shoot the poor little animals.

the dog was fine, it was taken to the shelter by somebody else. i saw it with a person in the parking lot after the accident.

I seen the accident. It looked like it could have been a bad one but I am relieved to here she is doing fine. Im sure she wont feel to good tomorrow or the next day though.
I didnt get the chance to read Stellas reply but never wish anyone harm. As for Animal Control, it needs a make over big time. Laws are not protecting other animals as it was suppose to be written but then again, many ordinances are outdated, not enforced or just plain wrong.
If it is broken, then help to fix it, not complain about it. If you just gripe and do nothing, you have no right to complain in my opinion.
