Chase County biodiesel plant moving along

Originally published 01:37 p.m., February 7, 2008

COTTONWOOD FALLS — Site work for the biodiesel plant in Chase County is moving along and construction should begin soon.

The dirt work is done, utilities are in and the concrete for the site is scheduled to be poured the first of March. It was announced last spring that the plant will manufacture biodiesel out of yellow fat.

An article last spring in the Chase County Leader-News stated that there is only one other plant in the country that processes yellow fat. According to www.biodieselmagazine.com, Southern California Biofuel in Anaheim, Calif., produces biofuel out of waste vegetable oil.

Has anyone heard anything about the progress of our bio plant? I have to wonder if plans will change now that Tyson will not be slaughtering.

The biodiesel plant in Emporia will use soybean oil from Bunge. Tyson layoffs shouldn't affect them.

Probably not secret. Just more great reporting from The Gazette. :)
