Just a quick pointer for those who would have took more aggressive actions. Learn this phrase if the need arises. "I feared for my life and did what I had to to STOP their actions." Don't say anything Hollywood style like, I had to break in a new bat, or I would have shot more times, but reloading took too long.

*It would behoove us all to makes sure that whatever actions taken are in line with what state and local law support. Going outside these laws will result in arrest and a trial.

The person who invades the private confines of my home uninvited will not be discriminated against based on skin color, sex, place of residence, drug of choice use, immigration status etc. They will at minimum wake up to circle of people standing over the top of them checking for vitals. If they come in armed or harm my family, they will be carried out in a body bag.

Kansas law say you can use deadly force to protect yourself, family, those around you if you use "like force". In other words, you don't want to unload the 44Mag on their worthless butts if they're armed with a butter knife.

Emporia is BROKE , not because of the Blacks, Mexicans or the Somalians, But because of the mismangment of our tax money. We have a 25 million dollar court house we never needed and we have a Pool outside of town that cost a couple of million dollars and is losing money everyday. Then we have a war that has bankrupted our nation and we continue to point fingers at the wrong people. 5% of the people here in the USA account for 90% of the wealth . The american dollar is only worth $.60 versus the EURO and we borrow billions of dollars from China to stay afloat . This the the refugee fault !!!! Gas will be $5-6 dollars a gallon by next year due to the decrease in the American dollar . Barrel hit $97 as of today !!! From the lack of Water to Higher medical cost to loss of jobs due to everything is made in China. We need to WAKE UP!

i dont think anyone is saying somalians are the criminals that will raise the crime rate, it is tyson importing more people into a small town and expecting the small town to support what the bring in. tyson is now done with the mexicans they have been importing, now there is no reason for tyson to keep them, they will replace them and that means emporia has grown ALOT the available jobs have decreased ALOT and that means real poverty is on the way.i have read the above comments and the other on the other thread, and i dont see racism in fact i see ALOT of people trying to clarify the fact that its not an issue of race, its an issue of no jobs, too many people, a packing plant that will keep bringing in people and dumping them from the payroll as soon as they are done. now the people the pick to import have a long ways to go to get educated enough to beginning earning good living wages away from tyson, and a long ways away from being able to own businesses in other words contribute to the business and median income growth of emporia. it is a fact that emporia has seen an increase in crime in recent years, and it will keep going up. for those of us who chose the live here because it was a quiet low crime town are sorely disappointed and many are leaving.the emporia schools are deterioratily under the weight of educating two languages in school and i sure as hel! know they cant handle a third language, go ahead make your racist comments like the racist you are, until you live in emporia because you like it here, maybe you should be one who is leaving. the above commenters are saying that regardless of race, anyone who breaks into their home will be placing their life and health at great risk, try breaking into my house while i am home and see how fast you wind up in the hospital. its anyone s right to defend their home, their family and their possessions . end of story!

It will get a lot worse for a lot of communities around the USA. It is a Fact that when one loses a job and cannot feed their family it makes one angry . The gap between the haves and have nots is currently getting wider. Most of the Somalians and Hispanics are here because they want a better life for their families . US Americans also want to provide for our families . But if I lost my job today , I will not blame the ones with me that are low on the totem pole. Our county is Broke our nation is Broke , No Money natta. Most of the items that are here in our stores are not made in the USA. In fact I went to Walmart last month to buy a tangerine and they only had some they imported from Africa . If you must yell at the people who are running our country not at the ones who are trying to survive , just like you. Yes I have a bleeding heart , I do not have much , But I have what I truly need , JESUS my Lord and Savior. never called anyone a racist .

I agree , we cannot afford to feed them , but they are coming anyway. They are also trying to bring people from from Burmar and they will also come. What I am saying once they are here , what do we do to create a non hostile enviroment..
about 9 years ago garden City paid all of it wokrers with 2 dollar bills to see how and where the money was going. Over 30% was going to other countries. This is happening now in Emporia . How do we fix it ? How do we make emporia a better for all of us to live in ? Especially our children !

It is going to happen , no matter what the people on this blog writes about , They are coming and , yes I understand we cannot even afford the people who already here. So please get over it. So, what is the next plan. Do we all move out and go where ? There is nowhere you can go and not be touched by the crisis we are suffering all over this great Nation. Sit back and complain and nothing will be done. Currently in the USA there are more Hispanic kids under the age of 5 than whites. Do you have any idea what that will mean for the USA in about 2027. Good grief, Usay, reading your comments on this thread and on the other one about refugee resettlement is like trying to read through mud. Let me type slowly for you. It is about NUMBERS of people, not TYPES of people. You've got it in your head that we are racist when we are simply being practical about the number of people this town can support with current number of employers. And would you please stop throwing out your own personal statistics. I used to teach college freshman in EN 108. Many of them would try to make up evidence to fit the thesis. Kiddo, you can't do that.

geez folks. somebody broke into somebody elses house. it happens every day. unfortunately for the idiot, somebody was home and the right thing was done by the homeowner. kansas statutes say that you may only use force necessary to defend yourself or somebody else against an attacker, not a burglar. if they attack, then defend yourself. if they don't and you decide to blast away or beat them senseless, then i guess you'll have a long stay in the county jail being judged by 12 of your peers.

as for the somalis, when was the last time any of them made the paper for something other than a traffic accident?? lets see...does the name clinton peck ring a bell?? people, it's time to stop looking at nationalities and skin colors and start doing what is right. if you whiners would go work at tyson, we wouldn't need to import those who process the meats that feed us and help to fund this city (although it's not much funding). if you want to be a nasty racist, go back to the south where they still have nooses hanging from trees...then you can join the ignorant ppl who are still wearing white sheets and burning crosses. the only difference between them and some of the persons making racist comments in here is that they aren't wearing a sheet in public.

sorry, if someone takes time to break into my home, while its occupied, im not going to engage in conversation, ask if they are an attacker or simply a missguided burgler, i ll defend my own ask questions later. breaking into an occupied home is a serious offense, that guarantees jail time for the offender, burglery, im told will sometimes be treated as a minor offense. now why would someone break into a home with no ideas how the owner will react?

My father was County Attorney here in Lyon County. We had a gun in almost every drawer in the house, with a large military cache of ammunition. I was taught the proper techniques in safe shooting at a very early age,i.e.around 7 or 8 years old. I could barely hold the gun, not to mention handle the recoil.

I had no doubt my job was to protect my father and sister, in case of a break in.

The extreme left or bleeding heart liberals would have us believe that we somehow are violating the intruders civil liberties when they break into our house.

Don't call the stupid morons at dispatch. Don't tell the cops anything until you speak with a lawyer.

If you see the intruder reaching for something, shoot with stopping force only, i.e. at least a 45 caliber not a NATO 9mm. If they are on drugs remain prepared to discharge your weapon again.
