A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody on charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and obstruction of justice this morning following a report of a possible burglary at 928 Commercial St.
Lt. John Koelsch, of the Emporia Police Department, said officers responded to the report at Carlos Liquor Store. Officer Shipley arrived on scene moments after the call came in. He said he saw two boys leaving the area on bikes. Shipley followed one of the two, who abandoned his bike and jumped a fence in the 800 block of Market Street.
Shipley said he saw a bottle in the suspect’s hand as he jumped the fence. Officer Shireman stopped a boy in the 1000 block of Union a short time later and arrested him.
Investigation into the burglary is continuing. Anyone with information about the incident are asked to call the Emporia Police Department at 343-4200 or Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 342-2273.
