REMEMBER the famous movie line, “Show me the money!”?

To all those pushing the smoking ban in Emporia, (due to health concerns about secondhand smoke), I say, “Show me the death certificate!” — ANY death certificate that states secondhand smoke as cause of death.

I would be genuinely surprised if anyone can come up with one signed by a reputable doctor.

That's like saying, "show me the proof that the accident killed someone" It's wasn't the car it was excessive blood loss or internal bleeding, etc. People don't die from smoking either they die from complications that are know to be caused by smoking, ie lung cancer.

Carole, your right to smoke is not more important that the right to clean air for people around you. And, no one is saying you can't smoke...you just need to go outside. An easy fix for everyone. I'm sure you don't mind a little fresh air while you smoke!

Well said, slvrnblck!

Carole, your statement is asinine!!! It is the RESULTS of smoking that kills people....you can find millions of people's death certificates saying "Lung Cancer"..."caused" by smoking or "Massive Heart Attack"..."caused" by long-time smoking......and the list could go on and on. Get your facts before asking such a foolish question~~

Besides, we who don't want to breathe or smell your stinking smoke should not have to put up with it. Take it outside!!!

Is the Surgeon General a reputable enough source for you?

"Secondhand smoke exposure causes disease and premature death in children and adults who do not smoke."

Read the letter, "second hand smoke. " slvernblack
do you have a job or do you just respond with your personal; feelings on this issue.

crackinsack, there are other studies that refute the surgeon generals study.

SMOKE

EIGGOHP; 2ND HAND SMOKE , NOT SMOKING, LUNG CANCER DUE TO SMOKING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH 2ND HAND SMOKE. NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE ON THE EFFECTS OF SECOND HAND SMOKE.

First off I am a smoker, have come from a family of smokers. Living in Denver, where a smoking ban has been in effect for a couple of years, I have to tell you that if a ban is passed in Emporia, you as smokers will live through it, although I'm not sure that all businesses will. I agree that it is totally wrong for a government entity to tell business owners how they have to run their business, but it is not so bad to have to go outside for a cigarette. But, beware, there were several small businesses (bars) that did go out of business because of the ban and the casino's in Blackhawk and Cripple Creek are loosing a ton of revenue. Think twice before passing this ban, in my visits back to Emporia, I'm not sure the city can loose any more business's, which I'm sure will happen if it has happened in Denver who's population is "somewhat" bigger than Emporia.
