15-year-old dies in one-vehicle crash
Four others are injured
Friday, August 15, 2008
One teenager died and four others were injured Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident on 210 Road in rural Chase County.
According to information from Chase County Sheriff Richard J. Dorneker, Britney Hajny, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chase County Emergency Medical Service technicians, rescue, and fire department officers responded to the call, which came in at 4:13 p.m.
Dorneker said that the Toyota 4Runner in which the five youngsters were riding had left the roadway and rolled three times in the east ditch. The 4Runner came to rest on its top, with one of the victims pinned inside the vehicle.
Levi Yoho, 16, was airlifted from the scene of the accident to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was reported in fair condition this morning, according to a hospital spokesman.
David Lehnherr, 17, and Cody Jergans, age not available, were taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health in Emporia, and Robert Martin, 16, was taken to Newman by private vehicle, Dorneker said.
A Newman spokesperson said the three boys were treated for their injuries and released.
No funeral arrangements for Britney Hajny were available this morning.

How sad! This just shows that the stats are true; the more kids in a car, the more likely they are to get in an accident. What a terrible thing to happen just as school started back up. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the kids involved.

I hate it when these types of accidents are what bring kids into reality that it can happen to them. None of them will ever be the same but hopefully learn from it and come together to say goodbye to their friend. What a very sad time for their family and the community. God Bless!

As in any small community, almost everyone in one way or another will be affected.
To the families, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Probably almost everyone on this forum at one time or another in our teenage lives was seconds from this happening to us. When I hear of these tragedies, I look back at how many times I could or should have been a statistic. I pray that my children will make better decisions than I.
I grew up in this area, and this is when the great people of Chase County will bond together for the friends, family and community.
