Olpe bank rated high

The Olpe State Bank has received a 5-Star Superior rating from BauerFinancial of Coral Gables, Fla., a leading independent bank rating and research firm. This is the 76th straight quarter that the bank has earned this rating, making it an “Exceptional Performance Bank,” given only to banks that have earned the high quarterly ratings for at least 10 consecutive years.

The rating, based on the bank’s overall financial picture, indicates that the Olpe State Bank is one of the strongest in the nation.

Established in 1905, the Olpe Bank is on Westphalia Street in Olpe; its Internet site is www.olpestatebank.com.

Ribbon cutting set

The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Vistors Bureau will have a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Tuesday at ECKAN Head Start, 1130 Scott St. An open house will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m.

The occasion is the grand opening of the program in a new, remodeled location. Classes will start at the building Sept. 2.

Head Start will serve about 100 children ages 3 to 5 from low-income families.

Aaron Heckman is the chief executive officer for ECKAN Head Start. Heidi Goff is the Lyon County area manager.

Tours will be given during the open house and light refreshments will be served after the ribbon cutting.

We went to Peking Express this weekend. I loved it. I had the shrimp and vegetable dish. Very good. They were very busy. My friend that was with did not like the fact that when you dine in there you off plastic plates and forks. But I didn't care. There was alot of people doing take out.
