Emporia NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer is expected to be part of a driver switch within Richard Childress Racing should the organization land Casey Mears for 2009.
ESPN.com reported Sunday that RCR officials are hoping to finalize an agreement with Mears this week. If that happens, Bowyer is expected to move from his No. 07 Chevrolet, sponsored by Jack Daniels, to the No. 33 Chevy sponsored by General Mills. Mears would take the No. 07 car.
RCR would then petition NASCAR to swap owner points from the No. 07 to the No. 33.

Glad I didn't buy a bunch of 07 gear, just two hats, a jersey and a front license plate.....

Now is the age of drivers switching cars after every year just like every other sport. No loyalty whatsoever. So long to the good old days of the Winston Cup.

I view the switch in two ways.
On one side, I am disappointed in the switch. He currently drives one of the best looking cars on the track. He doesn't get much media attention even though he has proven himself on the track. I attribute some of this to the social stigma placed on his sponsor. Do gooders and bible thumpers(like those pushing smoking ban) frown on liquor/beer and tobacco advertisements.
The other sponsor may provide him with better media exposure beings they sell kiddie cereals.
Which ever car he drives, I will support Clint who is the only reason I ever started watching Nascar.

This is going to be as bad as free angency in football. You cant buy anyones jersey anymore due to the fact noone stays with a team anymore.

They may switch teams and car numbers but they already switch around sponsors like crazy. Dont most of us have different sponsored cars of drivers? Special shirts etc? I think it keeps the collection interesting instead of the same ol, same ol...... just my opinion but what is to collect or to want if you already have it?

I agree Clint has one of the best looking cars on the track and will be sad to see a switch made, but that won't change me cheering for him.
On the other hand I have to disagree with the idea that he doesn't get much media attention in part due to the social stigma of his sponsor - as I recall when Jr. had Bud as a sponsor - he got plenty of media attention, so I really don't think it has anything to do with the sponsor. I am a do gooder and a bible thumper (not radical, but I believe in God) and I don't like being thrown into the category of people pushing a smoking ban - because I oppose it and I also drink and do not frown upon beer advertisements - go figure. There go the theories on typical midwest bible thumpers!

According to KVOE this morning, the switch is because Casey Mears has the General Mills car now and they're not comfortable continuing as his sponser if he jumps teams. Sound silly to me but whatever. Actually 07 Bowyer gear will probably be worth more if he does switch. We stocked up on Dale Jr. Bud stuff before he switched and will do the same with Bowyer.
And why is it if you're a church goer some people assume you're radical and against about everything? I thought neighbor's comment off base and rather rude.

Deepthoughts and Madpoet; don't assume anything, you know what they say. I did not lump you nor all religious minded people in with the smoking ban lynch mob, you did that on your own by reading too much into what I posted. It sure wasn't Mr Corbin and other alcohol consumers who pushed for a ban of the "sin" ads and sponsorship rights in Nascar. As for the Budweiser car, Budweiser still advertises regularly on all TV networks. How long has it been since you've seen a Jack Daniels commercial on public tv stations? They are there occasionally, but not often. I'm not talking about Cable and Satellite networks btw. Sorry that you and any others that may have felt it was an assault on your religious/moral beliefs.

I apologize if I misinterpreted your post. I guess I read your generalization that all do gooders and bible thumpers frown upon liquor/tobacco ads to be taken at face value, but it sounds like you didn't mean it that way. I'm not offended I just wanted to show that the theory that someone who believes in God will automatically be against alcohol, etc. is incorrect.
I'm curious, who pushed for a ban of "sin" ads and sponsorship rights in Nascar? I guess I must have missed that story or it was back in the day before I was a fan. Do you really think it is the TV stations that are banning these ads and not just Jack Daniels' decision to not spend as much in advertising as Bud does? If you are not talking about cable or satellite networks, then what channels are you talking about?

The same groups of people that also support smoking bans, those that push their moral beliefs on others and believe that everyone should live as they do. There's no one group to identify, many are involved. Nascar's premiere series was once called the "Winston Cup" for many years, which was sponsored by the tobacco industry, we all know that the anti's succeeded in doing away with tobacco advertising.
