Response to Trimble

PRIMARY ELECTION Day is near, advance voting has begun, and most voters want to become better informed.
Yet Tony Trimble, candidate for 76th District representative, repeatedly declines opportunities to engage voters individually (he won’t answer questions by phone) or collectively (he has declined at least two forum invitations to date.) Most legislators are enthusiastic for opportunities to promote their message.
Trimble’s news release regarding the July 21 candidate forum in Emporia unfortunately requires citing a few facts:
• He challenged the format as prejudiced though it is the standard format used from the national level down and was reviewed in detail with his wife. KCCC, the sponsoring organization, made over a dozen attempts to reach Trimble directly and repeatedly were told he would call back; we even accommodated his demand to be contacted on a specific day at an alternate number, however - no answer, no call back.
• He challenged the venue as partial to his opponent; however the offer to use this school auditorium free of charge was accepted because of its central location and excellent acoustical structure; you decide.
• His slanderous statement that KCCC organized the event to benefit his opponent is unfounded. Keep in mind KCCC invited and secured the commitment from four area newspapers to cover the event. Any “devious design” would have been detected by the press and reported.
Beyond having only Trimble’s printed advertising, thus only rhetoric versus substantive information, the question remains: are these baffling behavior patterns of inaccessibility, unwillingness to clarify his positions on issues to citizens, media interviewers or in public forums what folks of the 76th District want in their representative? The voters have the privilege to decide on Aug. 5.

If Ms. Heskett was trying to make the KCCC sound unbiased... I think she failed miserably.

I have talked to Tony several times and he has answered every question I had and then some. I think Viola's problem might be in her tone, I am just going by the scathing letter up there. Perhaps if she didnt take such a combative approach to everything and everyone, she would get the response she was looking for.
Viola, Have you ever heard the phrase "The lady doth protest too much"...you insist so strongly that something isn't true, that everyone starts to believe it is true. It's what you have done, Viola. The fact that you bothered to rip into Tony in your letter, tells us you are biased against him. If you would have just stated what you had done to try and organizre the event, people might have actually listened or cared. Instead you try and "swift boat" him. Viola, I would suggest you stay out of politics, you do not seem to be too political.

I am interested to know more about KCCC and whether or not Viola is some sort of leader within this organization and if her comments in her letter are those of the KCCC? I checked and it does not appear that they have a website. Perhaps Viola will post here and let the rest of us know more about the organization which she represents, albeit not in the best light.
