Kansas redshirt running back Brian Murphy has announced that he will transfer to play for Emporia State in the fall, the Lawrence Journal-World reported today.
Murphy, a 5-foot-8, 165-pound sophomore, was an All-State selection at running back in 2006 after rushing for 1,095 yards and 17 touchdowns at Lawrence Free State High School.
Known as a quick, shifty runner, Murphy ended his career as Free State’s career leading rusher and scorer.
“I just wanted to get more of an opportunity to be able to play, instead of sitting around for a couple of years before I’d get an opportunity,” Murphy told the Journal-World.
Murphy committed to KU as a walk-on two years ago along with his twin brother, Ryan.
Brian ranked among the top 15 prospects in the state of Kansas by Rivals.com after his senior year of high school.
He told the Journal-World that he expected to compete for playing time at running back, slot back, punt returner and kick returner at ESU.

Awesome! Welcome to Emporia Brian, and good luck. Great job Coach Higgins and assistants! I'm getting anxious for football season already.

I hope he still has some of his skills after not playing at K.U. last year. He is awfully small but so was Ryan Hulings a few years ago and he survived as a slot back and returner.

Seriously, what has been very positive about ESU football lately? Do you really enjoy all the losing and the beatdowns???? Come'on , averagejoe, get real!

Thank you, averagejoe, for your "rose color glasses" of current ESU football.

If you look, I have made no comments about ESU football here. Only observations about you.
No glasses here, though I think yours are some sort of shade of gray.
