The Burlington businessman who has filed for the 76th District seat in the Kansas legislature has announced his platform and goals in a news release sent to The Gazette.
Republican Tony Trimble will face incumbent state representative Peggy Mast in the primary election Aug. 5.
The 76th district includes two Emporia precincts, Lyon County and much of Greenwood and Coffey counties.
Trimble said that he pledges “to offer new fresh ideas in creating better jobs, better schools, lower taxes, and a more effective and efficient state government” if he is elected.
He wants to lower taxes, limit government and support traditional family values.
“Our state government has grown too large and clearly spends too much money,” Trimble said in the news release. “With your support I will bring our shared conservative values to the state Capitol.”
He said that cutting taxes and letting Kansans control more of the money they earn is the best way to energize the economy.
“In the legislature, we should work diligently every day to reduce government waste, limit government spending and remain focused on the values of hope, faith and opportunity,” Trimble said.
Illegal immigration is a state and federal security problem that needs to be addressed, he said. He wants immigration laws to be enforced and steps taken to protect United States borders.
Ensuring the best education for all children also was named as a priority in Trimble’s news release.
“I will always support efforts to bring about improvement in our education system,” he said.
Trimble and his wife, Renee, have been married 16 years and have two children, Jack and Abby. He was a trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol from 1985 until 1992 and graduated from Washburn University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
He and his family are members of St. Francis Catholic Church and are small-business owners in downtown Burlington.

If it's something to do with enforcing our immigration laws, the special interest lobby will crawl out of the sewer to stop its enactment. Just like the SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) a Federal bill, the laggard Democrats don't want voted into law. Corruption has manifested itself, as house Speaker Nancy Pelosi has used intimidation to stop her clan from endorsing this legislation. Ice has a free Tipline: 1-866-DHS-2ICE for intelligence to locate illegal aliens, or predatory businesses that employ them.
Predatory employers would be arrested, fined and possibly imprisoned and millions of illegal aliens would leave of their own accord. It would give (ICE) more funding and build the US border patrol up to 20.000 more agents in strength, build the fence as originally intended. This national law would also begin to remove criminal aliens from our society. It would give extra teeth to all immigration laws now on the books. Demand the SAVE ACT! Blah-Blah-Blah- What has any of the above got to do with the Trimble v Mast primary? Nancy Pelosi is not running agaist the winner of this match up.Sounds like some nit wit just waiting for a near reason to sound off about a national issue and spark an argument

Nancy Pelosi also opposes new oil exploration, even if it is on the High Seas. That hasn't stopped the Chinese from drilling within a few miles of our coasts. In fact, they buy their replacement parts in California coastal cities. We should think long and hard about electing a Representative to Washington that comes from Pelosi's party and thereby insuring her continued reign.
Peggy Mast should be returned to Topeka, however.

And, again, what does the Trimble v Mast REPUBLICAN run off for a seat in the Kansas House of Representatives have to do with Chinese drilling off the US coast? I doubt that either, if elected to this seat, will be voting on the issue. Again, trying to pull off subject and bait a debate.

I think Peggy Mast has done a good job for the most part. However, after reading a flyer from Tony Trimble, I think I will see what both of them have to say before I decide who to vote for. New blood never hurts, and while I have no problems with Peggy and wish her well, I am not going to dismiss the idea of Tony Trimble for the office she holds until I can make up my mind who is the best for me to vote for.

I got that flier in the mail as well alfalfa. One thing is certain, he won't be able to lower taxes AND increase school spending.
Rep. Mast is one of the most accessible Legislators I've encountered at the Capital. She is always ready to meet with you.

You have it right, neighbor. Rep. Mast is for pro-education WITH responsible government, unlike our tax and spend governor. It is also true that Rep. Mast does an amazing job at keeping in touch with her constituents. One does not only have to read her mailings, website, or newspaper submissions that get printed. She has amazed me at her frequent presence to meetings and events within District 76, and she makes herself so accessible!! I especially have appreciated her honesty - not willing to speak deception in order to win a vote. With her, you get the real deal., Why do we need another that sounds like the other, when we can get "the real deal"? From what Trimble is saying, we have just what we need. If it's not broke, don't fix it!!

Tony Trimble probably works with rational people who must live within their budgets and stand to lose if they do not produce, thus his desire for better education will soon become, unless he is part of the NEA gang, a scream of fright, as he sees the education bureaucracy push more taxes "for the children" ala 2006. Perhaps Tony prefers parental choice in education as a way to break the monopoly, but if not, he will be stuck with the call of more money for less, or at best equal, production.
Two years ago, Peggy Mast fought the largest tax increase in state history, not because she does not want children educated, but because she looked at education spending for the last 30 years and saw a rate of increase far above the rate of inflation, especially in Tony's home district, Coffey County USD 244, while academic progress stagnated. The conclusion was easy. More money does not equal better education.
Ask Tony what the per child spending was in USD 244 in 1989, $9100, compared to the other two districts in Coffey County, an average of around $3500. Today the districts are closer in spending, but did the huge advantage in spending in USD 244 make any difference in academics. Do we know how to spell NO?
Tony would find that Topeka is run by lobbyists, not citizens. Peggy Mast already knows that and is willing to fight them.
A friend called Tony the other evening to discuss issues in specifics. He informed her that he would do that in forums and would not talk to her. Why elect a novice when we already have a veteran. Peggy Mast, a proven conservative, already fighting for lower cost government and family values. She is pro-property rights, pro 2nd. Amendment, pro-life, and as the writer above said, more than willing to talk to you about the issues, at any time. Why would we change?
