Kirby Carson Smith of Emporia, Kansas, entered into rest March 7, 2019 at his home while surrounded by his family and friends. He was 70 years old. He spent a long and precious life with his soul mate and wife, Georgeann, who together raised four amazing kids; Joshua, Colby, Brooke and Morgan.
His best days were filled with playing Euchre with his kids, fishing and hunting, telling tall tales, being in the great outdoors, nature walks with his grandchildren, wheeling and dealing at auctions, flea markets or yard sales and having morning coffee with the gang.
Born in Jackson, Michigan and raised in Elkhart, Indiana, Kirby spent his formative years at Divine Word Seminary in Ohio followed by lettering in wrestling at Elkhart High School. Kirby was a devout catholic, a Vietnam Veteran, member of the Newton and Emporia Jaycees, Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, served as District Chairman of Ducks Unlimited and was the president of the Emporia Habitat of Humanity.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2019 from 6:00-7:00 p.m., with the Rosary from 7:00–8:00 p.m. at Charter Funerals, 501 W. 6th Ave in Emporia, Kansas. The Mass will be officiated by Father Farrar at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 102 Exchange St. in Emporia, Kansas.
