Vontilla Jo “Tillie” Fry (80) of Emporia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Newman Regional Health. Cremation is planned.
Tillie Raulston the daughter of Joe and Yula Yeager Raulston, was born November 4, 1938 in Stark City, Missouri. She and Jim Fry were married on November 4, 1956. He passed away on December 9, 1993. Tillie and Jim had two children, a son David and a daughter Julia. They lived and raised their family in Emporia where they enjoyed camping and their motorcycle club. They could be found most nights playing cards with friends at Mary’s Place.
She worked at Dolly Madison for 16 years and security at Tyson Meats for 20 years before retiring. She also was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
Tillie was an avid reader and had quite the collection of books. She was a Dr. Pepper drinking, dog loving, loud talking, God fearing woman. She was a tattooed, rock and roll grandma who loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids deeply. Tillie was outspoken, loved food and booze, and was crazy and unapologetically herself. She didn’t know a stranger and could talk to anyone who would listen. She loved her last years at Holiday Resort, and made some wonderful friends there.
She is survived by her children, David and Daiyar Fry of Orlando, Florida and Julia and Gene Langley of Emporia; her grandchildren, Mandi and Ryan Higgins and Gena and Scott Jones. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Skyler, Braxton and Brelee Higgins and Kyson and Cora Jones.
The world will be a little quieter and less bright without Tillie in it. She is so loved and will be greatly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.
The graveside memorial service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Fr. Brandon Farrar of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
