Daniel William Cookson, Madison
Daniel William Cookson of Madison died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Newman Regional Health. He was 73.
After high school, Mr. Cookson worked on a drilling rig traveling throughout Kansas. He later worked for Skelly, Getty and Texaco as a gauger from 1960 until his retirement in 1995. During this time, he also operated DW Cookson Welding based in the CAT Shack in Madison. After retirement, he operated the DW Cookson Bulldoze, Rock and Hauling until 2009.
The son of James William and Anna Mae Alvord Cookson, he was born on Nov. 3, 1938, in Emporia. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1956.
He married Carole Kay Kipfer on Feb. 14, 1960, at the United Methodist Church in Madison. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2009.
Mr. Cookson was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Madison. He was a former board member for the Madison Golf Club and served several years on the Madison School Board.
He is survived by daughters Dana Cookson of Madison, Jane Cookson Scott of Lawrence, Casey Cookson Zans of Desoto and Amy Cookson Koehler of Prescott, Ariz.; sisters Rosella Boone of Dennis, Kathy Deacon of Augusta and Doris Roach of Emporia; brother Truman Cookson of Alva, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers James William Jr., John “Doc” Arron and Richard Duane Cookson.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Madison United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service at Blakely Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
