Mary A. Williams, Cottonwood Falls

Mary A. Williams of Cottonwood Falls died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Villa Maria rest home in Mulvane, where she had lived recently. She was 97.
Mrs. Williams cooked at the Chase County High school until she was 70 years old, and earlier was a cook in a Cottonwood Falls restaurant.
The daughter of George W. and Myrtle Rose Phelphrey Fetter, she was born Jan. 3, 1911, at Erie. She married John H. Steadman on Sept. 29, 1929, at Emporia. He died April 17, 1964. She married Clifton Williams on Oct. 8, 1980, at Cabot, Ark. He died in November 1986.
Mrs. Williams was a member of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, John H. Steadman of Mulvane; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A son, James D. Steadman; three brothers, Earl Raymond Fetter, Harold Fetter and George R. Fetter; two sisters, Myrtle Linsea and Ella Edwards; and two grandchildren, Sheri Lynn Steadman and Kevin Steadman, died earlier.
The service to celebrate her life will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Melody Kimbrel of the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls. The family will meet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends also may call from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday.
