Verda Clemens Gibson died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at her Elmdale home. She was 93.
The daughter of John and S. Irene Pulley, she was born Aug. 14, 1914, at Bolivar, Mo. She grew up in Springfield, Mo., and moved to Kansas City as a young adult. She married Virgil Gibson at Kansas City, Mo., on June 27, 1937.
Mrs. Gibson worked as a waitress as Putchs 210 on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Mo. She and her husband owned a grocery store in Hope from 1948 until 1953 when they moved back to Kansas City and she was a full-time homemaker and mother.
After 49 years in their home in Prairie Village, the Gibsons moved to Elmdale. Mrs. Gibson was known as an accomplished seamstress, artist, cook and homemaker. She was an elder in Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She attended many painting classes.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by her husband; a daughter, Sherry L. Wells of Elmdale; a brother, James McKneelen of Belton, Mo.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Elmdale Methodist Church; the Rev. Lori Schwilling of Saffordville United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Elmdale Cemetery in rural Elmdale. Friends may call at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and at the Elmdale Methodist Church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the service time.
