Wayne E. McClintock, Council Grove

Wayne E. McClintock of Council Grove died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at the Council Grove Health Center. He was 95.
Mr. McClintock and his brother, Les McClintock, owned and operated McClintock Motors and helped build the building for the business when Wayne McClintock was discharged from the Army in December 1945. They first had the Dodge-Plymouth dealership, followed by the Ford dealership when McConnell Motors retired. This was sold in 1967. In 1938, he and his brother, Les, operated the Skelly Station in Council Grove and their other brother, Curren, drove the tank wagon. The brothers had their first garage in the building east of the bridge.
Wayne McClintock was inducted into the Army in March 1942. He was a radar operator, serving as a Sergeant in the 599th Signal Air Warning Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He earned four Service Medals and was discharged in 1945.
The son of Archie L. and Minnie Rader McClintock, he was born Jan. 23, 1913. He attended grade school at Center View, District 89, and graduated from high school in 1932.
Mr. McClintock was first a member of Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, then transferred when he moved to town to the Council Grove Christian Church where he was an elder for many years. He last was a member of Community Christian. He served on the school board and the city council and was a member of the chamber of commerce. He was an active member of the Morris County Historical Society and honored for his long service in looking after the Post Office Oak House and Seth Hays home. At the 2004 Wah-Shun-Gah days, he and others of his family were honored as Grand Marshals of the parade.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; four daughters, Carol Gonzolas of Council Grove, Lynda Ruth McClintock of Manhattan, Nancy Umholtz of Valley Center and Margaret Van Allen of Frisco, Texas; one son, David W. McClintock of Wichita; one brother, Les McClintock of Council Grove; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A brother, Curren McClintock, died earlier.
The service to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Community Christian Church in Council Grove. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Council Grove. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel in Council Grove.
