Rita Ellen Dumm, Lenexa

Former Emporian Rita Ellen Dumm died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at her home in Lenexa. She was 57.
The daughter of Murle D. and Sarah Hanes, she was born Aug. 22, 1950, at Winfield. She graduated from Emporia High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
Mrs. Dumm is survived by her husband of 35 years, Joseph C. Dumm III.; three sons; her mother of Emporia; a brother; and two sisters. Her father died earlier.
She was an advocate for organizations supporting children and adults with disabilities, including Kids of Oz Support Group and the No Worries Be Happy Center in Shawnee and had a longtime interest in arts and crafts.
Mrs. Dumm was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She also was a member of Xi Theta Omega social sorority and New Neighbors League.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa, where the rosary prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery at Lenexa.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to No Worries Be Happy Center and sent in care of the funeral home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215.
