Wayne Lewis, Burlington

Wayne Lewis of Burlington died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. He was 86.
Mr. Lewis owned and operated the Keen Appliance Company in Ottawa for many years, then was a sales representative for several companies in Kansas City. He and his wife, Norma, lived in Mississippi, Lawrence and Kansas City, Mo., before they returned to Burlington, where they lived for the last several years. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signals Corps during World War II.
The son of Arthur Milton and Pearl May Thomas Lewis, he was born Sept. 22, 1921, at Climax. He was reared in Burlington and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics.
He married Norma Shultz in November 1945 at Yates Center. She survives.
Mr. Lewis, an avid bowler, won the first Super Senior title at the USBC Senior Championships in Reno, Nev., in 2006 with a score of 224.
He is also survived by one daughter, Cathy Nicek of Oklahoma City, Okla., four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A son, Larry Lewis, and a brother, Albert Lewis, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will be in Key West Cemetery at Lebo. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
