The service to celebrate the life of Delores B. Swift Long will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Flint Hills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Jim Bartsch will conduct the service. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls. The coffin will be closed. Friends may call at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls from noon until 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The family will meet friends at the Flint Hills Community Church on Highway 177 in the south end of Cottonwood Falls from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Friends also may call from 9 a.m. Monday at the church until service time.
Memorial contributions to the Matfield Green Alumni Association may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
Mrs. Long died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka. She was 62.
Mrs. Long worked at several grocery stores in Chase County, painted and wallpapered, taught art in the after-school program, sang at many funerals and worked as relief help in the Road and Bridge and Appraiser’s offices at the Chase County Courthouse.
The daughter of Charles W. and Betty Bill Payton Swift, she was born May 26, 1945, at Emporia. She graduated from Matfield Green High School.
She married Robert L. “Bob” Long on Oct. 31, 1964, at Matfield Green. He survives.
Mrs. Long was a member of the Matfield Community Church and the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church. She served on the Matfield Green Alumni Association board for many years. She was a member of the Embroidery Club and the Chase County Artists Guild.
She is also survived by a son, Jesse L. Long of Lebo; a daughter, Teresa K. Campbell of Independence, Kan.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A brother, Charles Hugh Swift, died earlier.
