Former Emporia resident Dorothy C. Kimbell of Yates Center died Monday, March 17, 2008, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. She was 94.
Mrs. Kimbell, a nurse and X-Ray technician, worked in the X-Ray department of Newman Memorial Hospital. After her marriage, she helped her husband, Dick Kimbell, in the ranching business at Virgil. She later was a beautician at her home in Virgil for several years before she moved to Yates Center.
The daughter of Joe and Jessie Northrup Fisher, she was born Feb. 11, 1914, at Virgil. She graduated from Virgil High School and moved to Emporia where she took nurse’s training at Newman Hospital. In 1960, she received her certificate to be an X-Ray technician. In 1965, she moved to Wichita and received her diploma in cosmetology, then returned to Virgil.
She married Dick Kimbell on June 5, 1934. He died April 4, 1952.
Mrs. Kimbell was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Sunflower Quilters Guild and known for the exceptional quality and beauty of her quilts.
She is survived by one son, Ed Kimbell of Yates Center; six grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Zachary Kimbell; a daughter, Judith Lynn Manske; a sister, Pauline Trubshaw; and two brothers, Hollis Fisher and Gerald Fisher, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Yates Center. Burial will be in Virgil Cemetery at Virgil. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.
