Marvin A. Thompson, Manhattan

1925 - 2008

Former Emporia resident Marvin A. Thompson of Manhattan died Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. He was 83.
Mr. Thompson was an accountant at Kansas State University for 33 years. While at KSU, he set up the Auditor Division. From 1965 to 1970 he worked in Zaria, Nigeria, Africa. He also served on the Advisory Board for the KSU Federal Credit Union. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
The son of Ferdinand and Edith Duncan Thompson, he was born March 7, 1925, at Bushong. He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia with a bachelor’s degree and from Kansas State University in Manhattan with a master’s degree.
He married Barbara Ann Briles on Oct. 16, 1954. She died May 3, 1982. He married Esther Riechers on Dec. 31, 1989, at Manhattan. She survives.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan and served on the church board.
He is also survived by four children, Connie Visitacion of Altus, Okla., Marc A. Thompson of Paradise Valley, Ariz., Keith B. Thompson of LaVernia, Texas, and Reggie Riechers of Manhattan; one brother, Richard Thompson of Emporia; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mary Walters and Margaret Walker, died earlier.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Moon-Hee Chung will conduct the service. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery at Manhattan. The family will meet friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the church.
