Richard L. Young, Emporia

1937 - 2008

Richard L. Young of Emporia died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at the Flint Hills Care Center. He was 70.
Mr. Young worked at Young and Sons Implement in Council Grove until 1976 when he moved to Wichita, where he was a custodian at Friends University from 1976 until 2002. He moved to Emporia after he retired.
The son of Lloyd and Wilda Pierce Young, he was born Nov. 22, 1937, at Halstead. He graduated from high school in Council Grove.
He married Opal Nulik Young on Aug. 22, 1997, at Wichita. She died Oct. 10, 2003.
Mr. Young is survived by his mother of Emporia; two sisters, Elaine Bentz of Emporia and Eleanor Garrett of Omaha, Neb.; and three brothers, David Young of Emporia, James Young of Independence and George Young of Atkins, Iowa.
The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Council Grove Senior Center. Mr. Young was cremated. The private inurnment service will be held Saturday in Sunnyslope Cemetery at Council Grove.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Research and Education Foundation and sent in care of Charter Funerals, 501 W. Sixth Ave., Emporia, KS 66801.
