Lois V. Coates, Emporia

1929 - 2008

The graveside service for Lois V. Coates of Emporia will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Darren Henson will conduct the service.
Memorial contributions to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo may be sent in care of Charter Funerals, 501 W. Sixth Ave., Emporia, KS 66801.
Mrs. Coates, 78, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Emporia.
She was a homemaker.
The daughter of Henry and Florence Vausbinder Schrooten, she was born Aug. 29, 1929, at Burlingame. She married Douglas C. Coates Jr., on June 24, 1950, at Emporia. He died Jan. 18, 2004.
Mrs. Coates was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a 15-year member of the Newman Hospital Auxiliary; a member of the Toelle Liquor Store bowling team for 37 years; and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
She is survived by one son, Timothy J. Coates of Newton; two sisters, Rose Varner of Topeka and Lorna Shaw of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother died earlier.
