Neva C. Watts, Emporia

2008 - 2008

Neva C. Watts of Emporia died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Newman Regional Health. She was 102.
Mrs. Watts, an elementary teacher, taught at Doniphan County, Shawnee, Wellsville and in Emporia at Harmony Hill, Cottonwood (west of Emporia) and Village School for 25 years. She retired in 1974.
The daughter of Robert and Minnie Martin Clemetson, she was born Aug. 27, 1905, at Doniphan. She graduated from Atchison High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
She married Daniel N. Watts on May 22, 1935, at Atchison. He died July 28, 1963, at Emporia.
Mrs. Watts was a member of the Sardis Congregational Church. She also was a member of Miriam Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Republican Club, ADK and BPW and a life member of the Emporia Area Retired School Personnel.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Beardsley of Emporia; three sons, Duane Watts and Gary Watts, both of Emporia, and Ronald Watts of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Two sisters and one great-granddaughter died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Gooszen will conduct the service. Services also will be conducted by Miriam Chapter 14, O.E.S. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Sardis Congregational Church and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
