June Violet Stanley, 86, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Newman Regional Health. Mrs. Stanley was cremated, with no services planned.
Mrs. Stanley worked with her husband, Bud Stanley, for 61 years at their jewelry store, Stanley Jewelry at 619 Commercial St. Earlier, she taught at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; Duluth, Minn.; and the laboratory school at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
The daughter of Alex and Alfhild Oberg, she was born June 1, 1921, at Ashland, Wis. She graduated from high school in Two Harbors, Minn.; from the University of Minnesota in 1943; and completed graduate work at the University of California in Los Angeles.
She married Bud B. Stanley in 1947. He survives.
Mrs. Stanley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of P.E.O. Chapter CG.
She is also survived by a daughter, Christine Jewel Stanley of Emporia; a stepdaughter, Zandra B. Stanley Rapoport of California; four grandsons, two of whom live in Emporia, Erik William Foster and Stanley Adam Foster; a stepgrandson; a stepgranddaughter, Denise McNabb of Waverly; and four great-granddaughters. A brother, William J. Oberg, died earlier.
The family suggests that people purchase flowers to be planted this spring in memory of June, who always said, “give me flowers while I am alive.” Memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice may be sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
