The graveside memorial service for James “Jim” H. Cooper will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Bazaar Cemetery at Bazaar. Fay Russett will conduct the service. Mr. Cooper was cremated.
Memorial contributions to the Cotton-O’Neil Cancer Center or the Saffordville Community Center Building Fund may be sent in care of the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
Mr. Cooper died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls. He was 72.
He worked for Interstate Bakery for 32 years before he retired in 1997. During this time and after he retired, he trained race horses. He had thoroughbred, paint and quarter horses. He worked at the Anderson Cattle Company before he joined the U.S. Army.
The son of Elmer and Orea Maddox Cooper, he was born May 15, 1935, at Bazaar. He married Peggy L. Jones on March 8, 1957, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Cooper was a member of the Thoroughbred Association, the Quarter Horse Association and the Paint Horse Association.
He is also survived by two sons, J.E. Cooper of Grandview Community and Clay Cooper of rural Cottonwood Falls; one daughter, Vickie Cooper of Ames, Iowa; and two grandchildren. Three brothers, Joe “Bud” Cooper, Robert “Pete” Cooper and Edgar “Puncher” Cooper; and one sister, Dorthea Duncan Belik, died earlier.
