Lewis E. Barnett, Lebo

1918 - 2008

Lewis E. Barnett, a longtime resident of Lebo, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Peterson Nursing Home in Osage City. He was 89.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial will be in Reading Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions to the Lebo High School Athletics may be sent in care of the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box 43, Lebo, KS 66856.

Reading native Lewis E. Barnett, a longtime resident of Lebo, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Peterson Nursing Home in Osage City. He was 89.
Mr. Barnett farmed for 74 years and was a truck driver for 60 years before he retired. In the early 1950s, he drove a school bus for the McGregor Bus Service which served the Lebo School. He also officiated basketball and football games for several years. He was chosen as the Lebo athletes’ Fan of the Year for 2005, as he attended every sporting event that he could. He lived in the Lebo community for 70 years.
The son of Louis and Rose V. Zachek Barnett, he was born Sept. 17, 1918, on the family farm east of Reading. He grew up in the Reading community and graduated from Reading High School in 1936.
He married Wilma Jones on April 27, 1938, at Lebo. She died Oct. 25, 1995.
Mr. Barnett is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Ann Crouch of Lebo; a son, Robert Duane Barnett of Moundridge; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Lewis Howell Barnett; and a brother, Ben Barnett, died earlier.
