Fred LeRoy Buster, Eureka

1922 - 2008

Fred LeRoy Buster died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at his home in Eureka. He was 85.
Mr. Buster began his career with the U. S. Postal Service in 1949 and retired on July 31, 1981. After his retirement, he drove a school bus and was a custodian for U.S.D. 389. He enlisted in the Army on Dec. 11, 1942, and served during World War II.
The son of Earl Franklin and Hilda Olive Prouty Buster, he was born Sept. 3, 1922, at Tyro. He grew up in Teterville and attended local grade schools. He graduated from Eureka High School in 1941.
He married Dorothy Samuels on Jan. 1, 1946. They were divorced. He married Linda Lozier on May 24, 1975, at Eureka. She survives.
Mr. Buster was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2712, a life member of disabled American Veterans Chapter 8 and served a term as Kansas State Commander for the Disabled American Veterans. He was an active member of the VFW military funeral squad.
He is also survived by four sons, Fred Leon Buster and Steven Buster, both of Emporia, Stephen Buster of Andover and James Buster of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one brother, Bill Buster of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Mary Smith of Hemphill, Texas; and six grandchildren. Two brothers, Jimmie Buster and Otho Buster; and one sister, Delora Mae Thackeray, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka. The Rev. Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church will conduct the service. The family will meet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hand in Hand Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. box 595, Eureka, KS 67045.
