Charles Richard Garrett, Ellsworth

1924 - 2008

Former Emporian Charles Richard Garrett of Ellsworth died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Ellsworth County Medical Center. He was 84.
The son of Lester D. and Emma Dornes Garrett, he was born Jan. 9, 1924, at Burlington. He married Mary L. Rich on Sept. 3, 1949, at Hartford. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.
Mr. Garrett owned and operated Flint Hills Manufacturing before moving from Emporia to Ellsworth in 1968. He owned and operated Ellsworth Manufacturing.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 152 in Lebo; VFW Post 6485 at Ellsworth and White Rose Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star No. 297 in Yates Center.
Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife of Ellsworth; two sons, Rick Garrett of Ellsworth and Timothy Garrett of Claremore, Okla.; three daughters, Christina Garrett of Ellsworth, Cynthia Rodenhouse of Saunderstown, R.I. and Charlotte Panzer of Tulsa; four brothers, George Garrett of Emporia; Jack Garrett of Arizona City, Ariz., David Garrett of Lexington, S.C., and Gordon Garrett of Overland Park; three sisters, Irma Shapiro of Las Vegas, Lois Allen of Burlington and Joan Detter of San Francisco; and 11 grandchildren.
One sister, Shirley Fries, died earlier.
The funeral service for Mr. Garrett will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. Burial will be at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
In place of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
