Wilbur Ernest Martin, Savannah, GA.
Former Council Grove resident Wilbur Ernest Martin of Savannah, Ga., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Candler Hospital. He was 90.
Mr. Martin was retired from the State of Kansas Highway Department. At one time, he worked full time at the Western Auto in Council Grove and helped his father and mother-in-law at the Hayes House during the breakfast, lunch and evening rush periods. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.
The son of Arthur and Gertrude Rodiger Martin, he was born at Milford. He married Vera Darlene Ward. She died earlier.
Mr. Martin was a former VFW Post Commander in Council Grove.
He is survived by one son, Danny W. Martin of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Thelma Breese of Council Grove; one brother, Chester Martin of Copperas Cove, Texas; two grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 p.m. Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Council Grove. The Rev. Larry Buss will conduct the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Council Grove. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Council Grove funeral home.
