The funeral for Curtis H. VanGundy will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Lee Hoskins will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. VanGundy died Monday, Jan 21, 2008, at Newman Regional Health. He was 96.

Mr. VanGundy died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at Newman Regional Health. He was 96.
He moved from Chanute to Emporia in 1978 and worked for the Atchison-Topeka-Santa Fe Railroad for 45 years, beginning as a gandydancer. He was a section foreman from 1952 to 1956 in Lawrence, then moved to Chanute where he was a track supervisor for the Eastern Division.
The son of Ira Curtis and Ada Susanna Erickson VanGundy, he was born April 16, 1911, at Neosho Rapids. He married Rachel Elizabeth Parker on March 11, 1930, at Ottawa. She died July 16, 1998.
Mr. VanGundy was a member of Cedar Masonic Lodge 103 in Chanute, the York Rite of Lawrence and the Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
He is survived by two sons, Francis Lloyd VanGundy of Rockbridge Baths, Va., and Harold Ray VanGundy of Anaheim, Calif.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A son, Lt. Commander Duane VanGundy; four sisters; and two brothers died earlier.
