Clyde DeWayne Powell, formerly of Matfield Green, died Saturday at his home in Hemet, Calif. He was 77.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Matfield Community Church. Burial will be in Matfield Green Cemetery.

The service to celebrate the life of Clyde DeWayne “Dewey” Powell will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Matfield Green Community Church in Matfield Green. The Rev. Charles Colaw will conduct the service. Burial, with military services conducted by a Fort Riley Honor Guard, will be in Matfield Green Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home from noon until 8 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Powell, formerly of Matfield Green, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at his home in Hemet, Calif. He was 77.
He was the Child Welfare and Attendance coordinator in the Hemet school system before he retired in 1991. Earlier, he taught at Saffordville for one year and in several other school districts. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
The son of Clyde N. and Audrey V. Housley Powell, he was born Nov. 20, 1930, at Matfield Green. He received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in psychology.
He married Coleen Osburn Nov. 23, 1952, at Medford, Okla. She survives.
Mr. Powell sang at the senior center in Cottonwood Falls several times.
He is also survived by three sons, Randy E. Powell of Hemet, Calif., Kevin D. Powell of Joshua Tree, Calif., and Timothy A. Powell of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Doyle E. “Gene” Powell of Broken Arrow, Okla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
