Adila “Dolly” Shoup Givens died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at the Flint Hills Care Center. She was 95.
The time and place of services will be announced by the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
Adila “Dolly” Givens, a former longtime resident of the Broadview Towers died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at the Flint Hills Care Center. She was 95.
During World War II, she worked as a crew clerk, then referred to as a “Call Girl,” for the MIssouri Pacific Railroad at Council Grove. She moved to the Broadview Towers in 1974 where she lived for 33 years.
The daughter of Joseph Edward and Louisa Shores Thomas, she was born April 1, 1912, in rural Americus. She married Glen Smilie Shoup in 1930. He died in February 1957. She married Alfred “Bob” Givens in 1960. He died in 1967.
Mrs. Givens is survived by four sons, Robert G. Shoup of Brighton, Mo., Edward L. Shoup of Rose Bud, Ark., Walter E. Shoup and Jack W. Shoup, both of Shell Knob, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Bill Thomas, charley Thomas, Walter Thomas and Roy Thomas; and four sisters, Bertha Corpening, Ann Davies, Laura Jackson and Inez Morris, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Lee Hoskins of the First United Methodist Church will conduct the service. The private burial service will be in Bushong Cemetery at Bushong.
The family suggests that, instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
