Frank J. Daniels, Council Grove

Frank J. Daniels of Council Grove died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. He was 87.
Mr. Daniels worked in the CCC camp from 1937 to 1939 and then was a hod carrier before he enlisted in the Army in 1942. He was stationed at Camp Clark, Mo., and then at Salina. He worked at Fairmont Foods in Council Grove and attended technical school in Kansas City. He was a service man for Rumsey and White Hardware Store, worked at Beechcraft in Delavan, worked on the Council Grove Reservoir, worked for the government in Nebraska for three and one-half years, then transferred to Fort Riley. He retired in 1981.
The son of Frank Henry and Anastasia Sczhutkowski Daniels, he was born Aug. 28, 1920, at Erie, Pa. He married his wife of 52 years, Arthalene Wodke, at Salina. She died in 1995.
Mr. Daniels is survived by one son, Jeff Daniels of Council Grove; two daughters, Cheryl Rohloff of Wilsey and Karen Donaldson of Grand Junction, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel in Council Grove. Burial, with military services, will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Council Grove. The family will meet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends also may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
