Raymond R. Rhoads, Emporia
1943 - 2008
Emporia native Raymond R. Rhoads died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at his home in Topeka. He was 64.
Mr. Rhoads worked at Stormont-Vail Hospital in the facility management department for 20 years before he retired. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, then moved to Topeka.
The son of Arthur and Katherine Jones Rhoads, he was born Jan. 19, 1943, at Emporia. He married Marcia King on June 22, 1974, at Topeka.
She survives.
Mr. Rhoads is also survived by one daughter, Brenda Groves of Topeka; one son, Kevin Rhoads of Topeka; four brothers, Fred Rhoads, William Rhoads and John Rhoads, all of Topeka, and Richard Rhoads of Emporia; and seven grandchildren. A son, Eric Rhoads, died June 25, 2001. His parents; two brothers, Robert and Wayne Rhoads; and two sisters, Anna Mae Rhoads and Rose Gavin, also died earlier.
The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
