Harold Opdycke McConnell, Lyndon
1933 - 2008
Harold Opdycke McConnell died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at his home in Lyndon. He was 74.
Mr. Opdycke owned and operated a computer store in Lyndon for seven years and at the time of his death he worked at the Resource Center for Independent Living in Osage City. He also had farmed in Ellsworth County, wrote a grant establishing and being the director of two halfway houses in Emporia, was a counselor with the Lyon County Mental Health Association and worked in law enforcement in Lyon County. He was an Air Force veteran and served in National Security in Washington, D.C.
The son of Harold “H.C.” and Mary Opdycke McConnell, he was born Sept. 20, 1933, at Russell. He graduated from Russell High School at Russell and attended the University of Kansas. He married Jeannine Neihart. She survives.
Mr. McConnell was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Christian Church in Topeka.
He is also survived by one son, Alan McConnell of the home; two daughters, Joi Monnington of Kansas City, Kan., and Julie Hodges of Keizer, Ore.; two sisters, Sara Soukup of Kanopolis and Mary Elizabeth Eilrich of Enid, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends also may call from 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
