Edna Gilligan Madsen died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at the Holiday Resort, where she was a resident.
She was 95.
The time and place of services will be announced by the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Edna Mae Gilligan Madsen will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Darren Henson of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will conduct the service. The private inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Hartford.
Memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford or Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.

She was a cook at the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority for 10 years and worked at Red X Pharmacy for 10 years until it closed. She retired 15 years ago.
The daughter of Perry Lee and Stella Frances McCormick Woods, she was born Nov. 28, 1912, in Hartford. She married Dennis James Gilligan Jr., on Aug. 21, 1932, in Hartford. He died April 15, 1971, in Emporia. She married John Bane in August 1986 in Miami, Okla. He died April 26, 1989, in Eureka. She married William Madsen on Aug. 13, 1993, at Newkirk, Okla. He died June 20, 1998, in Emporia.
Mrs. Gilligan Madsen was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lowry-Funston Post 1980 Auxiliary. She was named Woman of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce .
She is survived by four sons, Donald A. Gilligan and Ronald E. Gilligan, both of Emporia, Stephen Michael Gilligan of Anson and Timothy Wayne Gilligan of Lenexa; five daughters, Stella M. Free and Teresa Barrett, both of Emporia, Rita M. Wagers of Neosho Rapids, Kay Slead of Lebo and Sue Bahm of Shawnee; 21 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
A son, Gilbert James Gilligan, and two brothers and one sister died earlier.
