Frank Albert Phillips, Topeka

Emporia native Frank Albert Phillips died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at his home in Topeka. He was 87.
Mr. Phillips worked at Rainbo Baking Co. in Emporia for 17 years, then worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for more than 35 years in Emporia and Topeka. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa and Europe in eight major battles.
The son of Alfred and Minnie Marcellus Phillips, he was born March 22, 1920, at Emporia where he grew up. He married Maxine E. Wieland on March 7, 1948, at Emporia. She survives.
Mr. Phillips is also survived by four sons, Terry Phillips of Emporia, Craig Phillips of Topeka, Steve Phillips of Lewisville, Texas, and Danny Phillips of Los Angeles, Calif.; four daughters, Cheryl Knight of Emporia, Diane Bitler of Burlington, Lyn Horgan of Delia and Trish Baughman of Topeka; two brothers, James Phillips and Charles Phillips, both of Eugene, Ore.; 23 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Five brothers and five sisters died earlier.
The memorial graveside service and military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. The family will meet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Seaman Baptist Church in Topeka.
