LoVena Christine Henrickson, Groton, Mass.

1903 - 2008

Former Emporia resident LoVena Christine Durham Henrickson of Groton, Mass., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton, Mass. She was 104.
Mrs. Henrickson worked at Fort Jewel and then at Stanley Jewelry when she lived in Emporia and was married to her first husband, Roy Durham. She also worked in the retail jewelry business earlier when she lived in Manhattan. After she graduated from college, she was a kindergarten teacher in Concordia. She moved to Groton, Mass., in 1993, to be near her family. In 2004, she was awarded the Boston Post Cane, recognizing Groton’s eldest resident.
The daughter of O.G. and Emma Randol, she was born June 23, 1903, at Ponca, Neb. She attended high school at Wayne, Neb., where she produced art work for the high school yearbook, the Spizzerinktum.
She married Roy Durham on June 30, 1929, at Wichita. He died Sept. 21, 1966, at Kansas City, Mo. She married Clarence Henrickson and they lived in Colorado and Arizona. He died in 1993.
Mrs. Henrickson attended the First Congregational Church in Emporia. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the faculty wives at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She also was a house mother for Alpha Sigma Tau sorority.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Durham of Groton, Mass.; and one sister, Pearl McKinley of Ponca, Neb. Two sisters, Jane Hammond and Ruby Curry; and four brothers, Walt Randol, Ward Randol, Jess Randol and George Randol, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Lee Hoskins of the First United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 2 to 3 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral home.
