Russell C. Shubert, Council Grove

1927 - 2008

Russell C. Shubert of Council Grove died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at the home of his daughter in Council Grove. He was 80.
Mr. Shubert was a barber and still cutting hair for friends until about a year ago. He was also the maintenance man at the Council Grove post office for several years before he retired. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
The son of Clive Oscar and Nellie Peterson Shubert, he was born July 7, 1927, at Wilsey. He attended trade school in Kansas City to become a barber.
He married Patricia Hamel on May 28, 1949. She died Feb. 25, 1975. He married Allene Coons Stuckey in May 1982. She died in June 1993.
Mr. Shubert was a member of the Community Christian Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Vicki Anderson of Council Grove; two stepdaughters, Francine Greig of Clovis, N.M., and Cindy West of Arizona; one brother, Marion Shubert of Council Grove; one sister, Marie Garner of Council Grove; two grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his fiancee, Jean Krause of Council Grove. Two sisters, Rena Koepsel and Vera Rioth, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Community Christian Church in Council Grove. Burial will be in Wilsey Cemetery at Wilsey. The family will meet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel in Council Grove.
